Hi, I'm Daniela

Curiosity is a constant in my life, and it's what led me to become a scientist.

I've always been fascinated by the ocean, its mysteries, and the challenge of understanding it. That drive took me through a degree in Physical Oceanography and a PhD in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires. But I've never wanted to stop learning, and I've always cared about the applications of science, so I later pursued a Master's in Public Policy at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.

I'm interested in all the ways we can observe our planet: from thousands of kilometers above with sensors on board satellites, from the ground with in-situ measurements, or through climate modeling tools. Climate risk is where those tools become most meaningful to me. Today I work on parametric insurance products, designing solutions to monitor risk and measure losses from natural disasters using satellites, machine learning, and data science. I lead the scientific agenda and coordinate the team behind those products.

I'm stubborn about learning. I love natural systems and I'm genuinely passionate about how our world works and how the climate shapes it.

When I'm not doing any of that, I'm probably chasing something new. I've been playing piano since I was nine, and I swim whenever I get the chance.

La curiosidad es una constante en mi vida, y es lo que me llevó a ser científica.

Siempre me fascinó el océano, sus misterios y el desafío de entenderlo. Esa inquietud me llevó a estudiar Oceanografía Física y a hacer un doctorado en Ciencias de la Atmósfera y los Océanos en la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Pero nunca quise dejar de aprender, y siempre me importaron las aplicaciones de la ciencia, así que después hice una maestría en Políticas Públicas en la Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.

Me interesan todas las formas de observar el planeta: desde miles de kilómetros de altura con sensores a bordo de satélites, desde el terreno con mediciones in situ, o a través de herramientas de modelado climático. El riesgo climático es donde esas herramientas cobran más sentido para mí. Hoy trabajo en productos de seguros paramétricos, diseñando soluciones para monitorear riesgos y medir pérdidas por desastres naturales usando satélites, machine learning y ciencia de datos. Lidero la agenda científica y coordino el equipo detrás de esos productos.

Soy terca para aprender. Me encantan los sistemas naturales y me apasiona genuinamente cómo funciona el mundo y cómo el clima lo moldea.

Cuando no estoy haciendo nada de eso, probablemente estoy buscando algo nuevo. Toco el piano desde los nueve años y nado cada vez que puedo.
